"HONEY CONSUMPTION IN MALAYSIA AND GLOBALLY HAS REACHED USD 12.6 BILLION, DRIVEN BY SCIENTIFIC RECOGNITION OF ITS MEDICINAL BENEFITS. HOWEVER, CONVENTIONAL PACKAGING HAS REMAINED UNCHANGED FOR CENTURIES, RELYING ON GLASS OR PLASTIC BOTTLES. HONEY IS SENSITIVE TO HEAT, WHICH DESTROYS ITS ACTIVE NUTRIENTS, MAKING TRADITIONAL COMMERCIALIZED HONEY LESS SAFE, HARDER TO PRESERVE, INCONVENIENT TO TRAVEL WITH, AND UNAPPEALING TO YOUNGER CONSUMERS. TO SOLVE THIS, OUR RESEARCH TEAM CREATED HONEY BEADS, AN INNOVATION IN EDIBLE HONEY PACKAGING USING REVERSE SPHERIFICATION. BECAUSE THIS PACKAGING PROCESS REQUIRES NO HEAT, THE HONEY’S ACTIVE INGREDIENTS AND HEALTH BENEFITS REMAIN INTACT. THIS INNOVATION DELIVERS A SAFER, NUTRITIOUS, PORTABLE, AND COST-EFFECTIVE PACKAGING SOLUTION. EZ FARM IS AN INTEGRATED SMART FERTIGATION SYSTEM COMBINING IOT, AI-BASED AUTOMATION AND REAL-TIME MONITORING TO OPTIMISE IRRIGATION AND NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT. THE SYSTEM INTEGRATES A MAIN CONTROL STATION, SENSOR SUBSTATIONS, AUTOMATED DOSING AND A WEB-BASED MANAGEMENT PLATFORM. EZ FARM REDUCES DEPENDENCE ON MANUAL LABOUR, IMPROVES FERTILISER APPLICATION ACCURACY, OPTIMISES WATER USAGE AND ENABLES REMOTE MONITORING OF FARM OPERATIONS. THE INTELLIGENT SOIL AND ENVIRONMENT MONITORING SYSTEM IS AN ADVANCED PRECISION AGRICULTURE SOLUTION THAT INTEGRATES IOT, SMART SENSORS, CLOUD COMPUTING, AND REAL-TIME ANALYTICS TO CONTINUOUSLY MONITOR SOIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS. THE SYSTEM MEASURES KEY PARAMETERS SUCH AS SOIL MOISTURE, TEMPERATURE, PH, ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY, SALINITY, NUTRIENT LEVELS, AND AMBIENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS, ENABLING DATA-DRIVEN DECISION-MAKING FOR SUSTAINABLE CROP MANAGEMENT. THE PROJECT AIMS TO IMPROVE RESOURCE-USE EFFICIENCY, INCREASE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY, REDUCE OPERATIONAL COSTS, AND MINIMIZE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS THROUGH CONTINUOUS MONITORING AND PREDICTIVE INSIGHTS. EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE ENHANCED SOIL HEALTH ASSESSMENT, OPTIMIZED IRRIGATION AND FERTILIZATION PRACTICES, IMPROVED CROP YIELDS, AND A SCALABLE DIGITAL PLATFORM SUPPORTING SMART AND SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE.

OUR PRGS PROJECT DEVELOPED AGARWOOD LEAF EXTRACT POWDER (ALEP) AS A SCIENTIFICALLY SUPPORTED FUNCTIONAL INGREDIENT USING AQUEOUS EXTRACTION, CARRIER-ASSISTED MICROENCAPSULATION AND SPRAY DRYING. THE STUDY ESTABLISHED ITS CHEMICAL PROFILE, IDENTIFYING MANGIFERIN, IRIFLOPHENONE, YUANKANIN AND GENKWANIN AS KEY BIOACTIVE MARKERS. ACUTE ORAL TOXICITY ASSESSMENT SHOWED ALEP WAS TOLERATED AT THE 2,000 MG/KG LIMIT DOSE, WHILE PRECLINICAL FINDINGS DEMONSTRATED PRELIMINARY ANTIDIABETIC POTENTIAL AND IMPROVED GASTROINTESTINAL MOTILITY WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT TREATMENT-RELATED ADVERSE EFFECTS IN THE MEASURED PARAMETERS. THESE FINDINGS PROVIDE A STRONG SCIENTIFIC BASELINE FOR REFINING ALEP, IMPROVING PILOT-SCALE REPRODUCIBILITY AND TRANSLATING IT INTO A SAFE, STANDARDISED AND COMMERCIALLY RELEVANT FUNCTIONAL-FOOD INGREDIENT FOR INDUSTRY.

ADDRESSING THE RISING DEMAND FOR GUT-HEALTH FUNCTIONAL INGREDIENTS, THE PROJECT AIMS TO EXTRACT PREMIUM PREBIOTIC FIBERS WHILE COMPLETELY UTILIZING RESIDUAL BIOMASS FOR SECONDARY BIO-PRODUCTS. EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE A ZERO-WASTE, ECO-FRIENDLY PROCESSING SYSTEM, SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED AGRICULTURAL WASTE IMPACT, AND A SCALABLE PRODUCTION MODEL TAILORED FOR THE NUTRACEUTICAL, FOOD, AND WELLNESS SECTORS.
